Blog Entry: Stanley O'Neal, the embattled chief of Merrill Lynch, has resigned less than a week after admitting that he had underestimated the firm's losses in the subprime mortgage market. This is the person who put relationships and culture in the cold pursuit of profits.
Along the way, he forgot about risk management. It only cost Merrill $8 billion dollars and its reputation. If you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Despite the huge disaster, O'Neal is still walking away with $160 million.
